An autonomous (pilotless) eVTOL in the Qatar context refers specifically to the EHang EH216-S aircraft used in the 17 November 2025 trial in Doha. The EH216-S has no pilot on board and no remote pilot taking stick-and-rudder control. Instead, it flies a pre-set route between vertipads using onboard flight-control systems, GNSS-based positioning, and continuous data exchange with a ground command-and-control centre.
This is a different operating concept from the Joby S4 deployed in Dubai under the RTA agreement. The Joby S4 is a piloted eVTOL — one pilot, four passengers — and the November 2025 Margham → Al Maktoum flight in the UAE was a piloted point-to-point demonstration. The Qatar trial was the first urban human-carrying pilotless eVTOL flight in the Middle East.

The Qatar trial was authorised by the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA), with strategic support from the Ministry of Transport.
